Earl Ray Betz
WELLSVILLE - Earl Ray Betz, 89, of Wellsville, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021, at Crossroads at Beaver Creek following a lengthy illness.
He was born January 14, 1932, in Wellsville, the son of the late Cadiz and Millicent (Wolfe) Betz. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death on April 2, 2002, by his first wife, Louise T. (Rossi) Betz, whom he married October 11, 1952. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margie Fraser.
Earl graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949, and he served in the United States Navy as an aviation mechanic from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. He was previously employed for over thirty years in the logistics department at Crucible Steel Mill before his retirement in 1984. He was then employed as a custodian in the Wellsville Local School District until his retirement in 1995. Earl was a member of the Wellsville Sons of Italy Lodge 657 and also was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and Sacred Heart Church.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa (Johnson) Betz, whom he married in November of 2002; four daughters: Michelle Adams and her husband, Steve, of Fleming Island, FL, Lorraine Betz of Brunswick, OH, Lisa Davis of Westerville, OH, and Anna Brickey of Westerville, OH; five sons: Stephen Betz and his wife, Sandy, of Wellsville, Michael Betz and his wife, Dawn, of Wellsville, Mark Betz and his wife, Elena, of Lexington, KY, Joseph Betz and his companion, Tammy Smith, of Fayettesville, PA, and James Betz and his wife, Emily, of Cape May, NJ; and one brother, Thomas Betz and his wife, Dottie, of Wellsville. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Sacred Heart Church, 418 4th Street in Chester, WV, with Rev. Jeeson Stephan officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery where the Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors.
Family and friends may call from 2:00-5:00 pm on Friday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. Because of Earl's love for Notre Dame and the Wellsville Tigers, the Betz family requests that everyone who attends wear their favorite Notre Dame or Wellsville Tigers apparel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Earl's name to: Sacred Heart Church, 418 4th Street, Chester, WV 26034.
