Clarence E. Stefl
HAMMONDSVILLE - Clarence E. Stefl, 92, of Hammondsville, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Valley Hospice at Trinity West Hospital in Steubenville following a short illness.
He was born November 7, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant Township, Mammoth, Pennsylvania, the eldest son of the late James Charles and Alice Stefl. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia.
During his junior and senior years of high school, Clarence worked at Crucible Steel Mill. He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1946 and continued working at Crucible. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. Clarence owned and operated a gas station on St. Clair Avenue, and then he went to Texas to learn to become a horse shoer. Clarence worked at Taylor Smith and Taylor and then went to work at Titanium Metals in Toronto, and he retired in August 1995 as a boiler operator at Ohio Edison Sammis Plant in Stratton.
Clarence was a member of Jenkins Lodge 471 F & AM for forty-two years. He was also a member of Negley Lodge 565 F & AM. Clarence was the District Education Officer for the Masons. He was the mastor of Brush Creek Grange and was a member and elder of Grant's Hill Church for 50 years.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Sandra (Golden) Stefl, whom he married August 11, 1968. Also surviving is one sister, Charolette; two brothers: David and Kenneth; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 26, 2021, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Irv Hoover of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Sunday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 pm.
