Ruth Ann Gibson
WELLSVILLE - Ruth Ann Gibson, 86, of Wellsville, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021, at her son's home in McDonough, Georgia.
She was born November 22, 1934, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Elmer and Vera Belle (Jones) Mackall. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death on May 3, 1985, by her husband, Clark E. Gibson, whom she married July 3, 1965. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters: Olive Glover, Winona Wolfe, and Gladys Hunter; and three brothers: Ralph Glover, Robert Mackall, and George "Buck" Mackall.
Ruth graduated from Wellsville High School in 1953 and earned her Bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University. She was employed for thirty-two years as a teacher in the Beaver Local and Wellsville Local School Districts before retiring in 1988. Ruth was a lifetime member and trustee of the Wellsville Alumni Activities Committee where she dedicated much of her time to the all-class reunions and spaghetti dinners as well as many other activities. She was also a lifetime member of the Ohio Education Association. Ruth was Methodist by faith and had been a member at the former Calvary United Methodist Church in East Liverpool.
Survivors include four sons: Steven "Gibby" Gibson and his wife, Sheryl, of Wellsville, Jerry Gibson and his wife, Nan, of McDonough, GA, Michael Gibson and his wife, Kerry, of Surprise, AZ, and Jeffrey Gibson of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kristy (JC) Coulter, Dennis Gibson, Alex (Elyse) Durden, Lindsay (Justin) Timbs, Amy Webb; and several great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people in the funeral home at one time will be limited to maintain proper social distancing protocols, and in compliance with the orders of Governor Mike DeWine, masks must be properly worn while in the funeral home.
A private family funeral service will be held with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the Wellsville First Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
