John Joseph Gibas
WELLSVILLE - John Joseph Gibas, 92, of Wellsville, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Calcutta Health Care Center.
He was born August 22, 1928, in Port Homer, Ohio, the son of the late John J. and Florence (Spencer) Gibas. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sisters: Bonnie Nightingale, Mary Reese, and Betty Scott.
John graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949. He was employed for thirty-one years as a belt grinder in the cold strip for the former Crucible Steel Mill. John was a member of the Wellsville Alumni Association and was a regular volunteer at the monthly spaghetti dinners held at the Alumni Center. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and Holy Trinity Parish.
Survivors include his wife, Rose (DiCello) Gibas, whom he married March 22, 1969; and one sister: Florence Brown of Lansdale, PA. He is also survived by a loving extended family including many special nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 1:00-3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people in the funeral home at one time will be limited to maintain proper social distancing protocols. Also, in compliance with the orders of Governor Mike DeWine, masks must be properly worn while in the funeral home.
Private Catholic Funeral Rites will be held with Rev. Scott Kopp of the church presiding.
Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
