Dolores Jean "DJ" Podwel
WELLSVILLE - Dolores Jean "DJ" Podwel, 76, of Wellsville, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 30, 1944, in East Liverpool, the daughter of the late Domenic and Rose M. (Chefalo) Comparetto. In addition to her parents, DJ was preceded in death by two sisters: Patricia Cook and Theresa Rawlings; and two brothers: Marion "Mac" Comparetto and John Comparetta.
DJ graduated from Wellsville High School in 1962. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She enjoyed playing Bingo, and she was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Cleveland Browns. DJ was a member of the Wellsville Sons of Italy Lodge 657, Elks Lodge 1040, an associate member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department, and a past member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was Catholic by faith.
Survivors include her husband, Barry Podwel, whom she married November 27, 1986; one daughter, Dawn "Tope" Swogger and her husband, Bobby, of Wellsville; one son, Bryan Podwel and his wife, Lauren, of Wellsville; one sister, Rosemary Comparetto of Panama City, FL; and one brother, Domenic "Mick" Comparetto and his wife, Linda, of Wellsville. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Justin Swogger, Kayla Swogger, Cameryn Podwel, Rylan Podwel, and Adelyn Podwel; and three great-grandchildren: Caleb and Lucas Swogger, and Sophia Swogger.
Family and friends may visit from 4:00-6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people in the funeral home at one time will be limited to maintain proper social distancing protocols. Also, in compliance with the orders of Governor Mike DeWine, masks must be properly worn while in the funeral home.
A private family service will be held with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the Wellsville First Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
