Frankie Lee "Frank" Tompkins, Sr.


SALINEVILLE - Frankie Lee "Frank" Tompkins, Sr., 83, of Salineville, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Salem Care Center North.


He was born February 13, 1937, in Wellsville, the son of the late James and Martha (Golden) Tompkins.


Frank graduated from Wellsville High School in 1955, and he served his country in the United States Air Force. Shortly after getting out of the military, Frank and his wife, Iris, bought and ran their own restaurant near Chester, WV, called, appropriately, "Franks". He was employed at TRW, Buckeye Barns, and most recently as a driver for CARTS transportation. Frank was an avid outdoorsman, and he enjoyed hunting and taking long walks in the woods. He was also a skilled woodworker and was always working on a project.


Survivors include his wife, Iris (Cunningham) Tompkins, whom he married October 29, 1961; one daughter, Penny Amato and her husband, Dr. Jack Amato, of Irondale; one son, Frankie Tompkins, Jr. of Lisbon; and two brothers: Willie Tompkins of Tennessee and George Tompkins of Corpus Christi, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Krystal Spickler of Aurora, IL, Kyle Spickler of Akron, Karleena Spickler of Austintown, and Bailey Tompkins of Dover, OH.                     

According to Frank's wishes, a private family service will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville with Pastor Dirk Hall of the Living Well Church officiating.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Frank's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105 or by visiting
