Verna D. Merriman
SALINEVILLE - Verna D. Merriman, 86, of Salineville, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at East Liverpool City Hospital due to complications from the COVID-19 virus.
She was born April 17, 1934, in Irondale, the daughter of the late Lotus and Opal (Patterson) Hoover. In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death on October 27, 1998, by her husband, Kenneth Merriman, whom she married in 1956. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Heather Altenhof, and her sister, Norma Hoover.
Verna graduated from Wellsville High School in 1951. She had previously been employed in newspaper delivery for the Morning Journal, and she was most recently a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of the former Highlandtown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her six children: Janice Scott and her husband, Bruce, of Highlandtown, Brenda Altenhof and her husband, Dave, of Gillette, WY, Kenneth "Bud" Merriman and his wife, Sue, of Highlandtown, Jeff Merriman of Gillette, WY, Lori Bentz of Gillette, WY, and Keith Merriman of Salineville. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held at Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the Wellsville First Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Highlandtown Cemetery.
