Obituary of Angela Brophey
Angela "Dolly" Brophey
WELLSVILLE - Angela "Dolly" Brophey, 83, of Wellsville, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 27, 1937, in East Liverpool, the daughter of the late Fred and Betty (Prezzia) Amato. In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death on November 4, 2017, by her husband, Thomas J. Brophey, whom she married October 26, 1957. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Gerry Brophey Postich; her son, Thomas F. Brophey; and her brother, Charles "Chuck" Amato.
Dolly graduated from Wellsville High School in 1955, and she was proud of being the head majorette while in high school. She was employed as a clerk for AJ Olsen in East Liverpool, Kroger Grocery Store, and Dom's Sparkle Market. Dolly was very active in her community. She was a member of the Wellsville Alumni Activity Committee and formed the Wellsville High School Alumni Band in 1989. She was recognized in 2009 for her support of the Wellsville Local School District when she was awarded the G.W. McMillan Friend of the School Award. Dolly was a long-time board member for the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce, and she was awarded the Chamber's Woman of the Year Award in 2010. She was also a part of the Wellsville Village Flag Committee and former Superintendent's History Committee. Above all else, Dolly was a proud member of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville where she was the former organist and cantor as well as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America. When the church closed, she was part of the driving force behind the Save Immaculate Conception Church Committee that fought to keep it open. Dolly was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
