M. Patricia "Pat" Carlson

WELLSVILLE - M. Patricia "Pat" Carlson, 96, of Wellsville, passed away Friday, October 23, 2020, at Calcutta Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.

She was born December 15, 1923, in London, England, the daughter of the late Frederick Neal and Violet (Smith) and James C. McCullough. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death on August 10, 1979, by her husband, Harvey A. Carlson, whom she married November 22, 1945. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Carlson, her daughter, Mary Margaret Carlson, two sisters: Yvonne Littlefield and her husband, Dennis, and Freida Neal; two brothers: John Neal and Desmond McCullough; and one infant granddaughter. Her son, Michael, was born on October 30, and his wife, Betty, his children: Sarah, Michael, and Christina, his grandchildren, sisters, and nieces and nephews would like to send all their love to him and will hold a special remembrance of him in their hearts on his birthday.

Pat graduated from a private girls' school in North London. She was an air raid warden with her step-father, James, with Scotland Yard, but she had to relinquish those duties when she became employed as a secret seal decoder at Whitehall for the British Government. Pat was a Girl Scout leader and was a guest speaker at many local schools and churches where she shared stories about her home country of England. She also loved to read, travel, and take pictures as a photographer. She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville and attended the House of Prayer. Pat also had a card ministry, and, above all else, she loved The Lord Jesus as her Savior.

Pat loved her entire family, and she cherished the moments she spent with them. Survivors include three daughters: Yvonne Twyford of Wellsville, Patricia Plunkett and her husband, James, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Marian "Jingles" Forney and her husband, Jerry, of East Liverpool; one daughter-in-law, Betty Carlson; two brothers: Dr. James McCullough and his wife, Janet, of New City, NY, and Roy McCullough and his wife, Judy, of State, PA; two sisters-in-law: Nancy Neal and Patricia McCullough; and one previous sister-in-law, Leann Frable. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Bridget (Tony) Brumfield, James (Susan) Twyford, Tara (Tim) Jobe, Melissa (Cory) Magnuson, Michael (Sarah) Carlson, Christina Carlson, Dawn (Jim) Tatgenhorst, Gary (Emmy) Forney, and Jerry (Andrea) Forney; ten great-grandchildren: Myia Rose, Brooklyn, Eden, Drew, Dakota, Jadon, Alyssa, Violet, Jax, and William; and two great-great-grandchildren: Aliyah and Wylder. Also left to cherish Pat's memories are her good friends: Pastor Kim Gadd, Mary Kreider, Joan Stowers, and Jackie Lyle.

A private family service will be held. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the family wants those who are invited to attend to maintain proper social distancing requirements and wear masks at all times.

Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

Pat's arrangements are entrusted to Roberts Funeral Home.

Her family would like to thank and recognize the loving care that her daughter, Yvonne, provided to their mother, especially for the past three years. She took care of Pat in her home during her illness, and Yvonne always put their mother's needs first. The family would also like to thank Pat's special grandson, James Twyford, for stepping into the position of caring for her as a son would for his mother. He spent endless hours with Pat at the hospital and nursing home, and he would always make sure she had everything she needed. Pat's entire family wants to recognize these two special people for the love, care, and dedication shown to their mother and grandmother.

The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Batish, Dr. Singh and his wife, Dr. Carr, East Liverpool City Hospital, Calcutta Health Care Center, and Sherry Kazee, for the love, care, and support shown to their mom during her illness. A special thank you is also extended to Rev. Bernard Gaeta for administering Pat's last rites. Pat's family would also like to thank Erin and Bill at Roberts Funeral Home for the care and compassion they have shown to the family during this difficult time.
