John G. "Jack" Stewart

 

WELLSVILLE - John G. "Jack" Stewart, 92, of Wellsville, passed away Monday, May 18, 2020, at The Orchards at Fox Crest in Chester, WV.

 

He was born August 12, 1927, in Wellsville, the son of the late John H. and Sara B. (Davis) Stewart. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death on June 12, 2003, by his wife, Rita (Flynn) Stewart, whom he married October 14, 1950. He was also preceded in death by his son, Tom Stewart, and his sister, Sally Hawksworth.

 

Jack graduated from Wellsville High School in 1945, and he served in the United States Navy during World War IIHe was employed for thirty-five years as an assistant supervisor for McClain Fire & Brick before his retirement in 1990. Jack was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 507 and the Wellsville Sons of Italy Lodge 657. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and a member of Holy Trinity Parish.

 

Jack was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and is survived by his daughter, Ann Kostial and her husband, Jim, of Moon Township, PA; his son, Ed Stewart and his wife, Susan, of Trabuco Canyon, CA; his loving brother, Jerry Stewart and his wife, Lurana, of Santa Barbara, CA; his brother-in-law, Tom Hunter, of East Liverpool, OH; his sister-in-law, Mary (Flynn) Franklin, of Beaver Falls, PA; and his sister-in-law, Hannah Flynn, of East Palestine, OH. Also surviving are three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private Catholic Funeral Rites will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville with Rev. Scott Kopp of the church presiding.

 

Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Tri-State Burial Group.
