Jean Eileen Whittington
COLUMBIANA - Jean Eileen Whittington, 93, of Columbiana, formerly of East Liverpool, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center .
She was born October 8, 1926, in East Liverpool, the daughter of the late Herbert and Irene (Haney) Grandstaff. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death on July 18, 2004, by her husband, Vernon C. Whittington, whom she married March 22, 1946. Jean was also preceded in death by four children: Cynthia Chaff, Billy Joe Whittington, Larry Whittington, and Chris Whittington; one sister, Beverly Jackson; two brothers: Herbert and Bobby Grandstaff; and one grandson, Bradley Graham.
Jean graduated from Chester High School in 1943. She was employed for many years as an STNA taking care of patients in their homes. She was involved in many activities in her community and was especially active in the Friends of Tomlinson Run State Park. Jean was a member of the First Christian Church in Chester and had also attended House of Prayer in East Liverpool.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Graham and her husband, Sayre, of East Liverpool; and one son, Lonnie Whittington and his companion, JoAnn Taylor of East Liverpool. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Cassie Kohen of Fairfield, OH, Lori Ralston of Wellsville, Brian (Laura) Bosworth of Cleveland, Matt (Debbie) Bosworth of Cleveland, Jeff (Jenny) Graham of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Rachel (Phil) Ignhat of Toronto, Jacob (Angel) Whittington of Toronto, Amy Lamb of Chester, WV, Michelle Chaney of Chester, WV, and Courtney (Josh) Overdorf of the Columbus area; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held with Pastors Kim and Bob Gadd of House of Prayer officiating. A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in Shadow Lawn Memorial Gardens.
