Helen Irene Jarvis
WELLSVILLE - Helen Irene Jarvis, 100, of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 12, 1919, in Coshocton, OH, the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Ann (Gorman) Young. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death on September 29, 1974, by her husband, Lester "Abie" Jarvis, whom she married December 26, 1939. She was also preceded in death by one son, John Jarvis; and seven siblings: William Harold Young, Jean Frances Young, George Michael "Jack" Young, Frederick Edward "Tom" Young, James Walter Young, Joseph Gorman Young, and Judith K. Young Shepherd.
Helen graduated from Wellsville High School in 1938. She was employed as a finisher and handler for the former Sterling China Company until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church where she was an originator of the Sidewalk Cafe and enjoyed the time she spent there with her friends as the Pie Bakers. When Helen was in her 70s and 80s she volunteered with Meals on Wheels to deliver meals to "old people" who were younger than her. She also loved to sew and to do alterations on many articles of clothing for her family including numerous dance and Halloween costumes.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Idzakovich and her husband, Zak, of Dayton, OH; and one son, David Jarvis and his wife, Pat, of Wellsville. Also surviving is one sister, Mary Ann Young Ream of East Liverpool; nine grandchildren: Dina Jarvis Vallera, David Jarvis II, Denise Jarvis, Sara Idzakovich Sullivan, Rachel Idzakovich, Elizabeth Idzakovich, Stacey Jarvis Lucas, John Jarvis II, and Stephanie Jarvis Kommel; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Hetzer of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Helen's name to: Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, 11100 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
