James Robert "Rookie" Reed
WELLSVILLE - James Robert "Rookie" Reed, 74, of Wellsville, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville.
He was born December 29, 1944, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Robert H. and Katherine O. (Woolley) Reed. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Suzanne Henthorne and Margaret Jane Reed.
Rookie graduated from Wellsville High School in 1964. He was employed as a custodian for the Wellsville Local School District and Walmart before retiring in 2006. Jim was always very athletic and loved sports. He was a football and basketball referee for twenty years for the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and he enjoyed playing tennis with the Tri-State Tennis Club. Jim loved to dance and enjoyed participating in the Wellsville Alumni Association Lip Sync Show. He was also a retired member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department. Above all else, Jim loved spending time with his family and was the jokester who kept everyone laughing. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church.
Survivors include his wife, Debra (Skeens) Reed, whom he married September 1, 1984; three daughters: Tonda Reed and her companion, Ralph Taubert, of East Liverpool, Paula Falk and her husband, Shawn, of Chester, WV, and Jennifer Reed of Clinton, PA; four sisters: Maxine DeLeo of Winston-Salem, NC, Kathy Croskey and her husband, Bill, of Hendersonville, TN, Rebecca (Joyce) Reed of Orlando, FL, and Amy Lively and her husband, Ray, of Cleveland, TN; and three brothers: Bodie Reed and his wife, Patty, of Wellsville, Thomas Reed and his wife, Joan, of Wellsville, and Tim Reed and his wife, Karen, of Wellsville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Chas (Summer) Zellers, Erika Cogar, Evan Noss, Tyler Falk, Kadyn Falk, Ava Falk, and Shane Taubert; four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Creel, and Sara Zellers, and Brayden Cogar; and a large group of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Lisa (Yogi) Bayer of Wellsville.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Dirk Hall of the Living Well Church officiating.
Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
Friends may call from 12:00-4:00 pm on Sunday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
