Howard Lafayette Westlake
WELLSVILLE - Howard Lafayette Westlake, 95, of Wellsville, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019, at the Louis Stokes Veterans Medical Center in Cleveland.
He was born July 23, 1924, in Wellsville, the son of the late Paul and Mildred (Thomas) Westlake. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death in 2015 by his wife, Anna (Blaner) Westlake, whom he married January 30, 1946. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Kenneth Clark, and two sons-in-law: James Clark and Darius Hoffman.
Howard served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He and his wife, Anna, owned and operated Westlake's Garage in Wellsville. He spent his life as a mechanic and had worked on every type of vehicle from police vehicles and garbage trucks to school buses. Howard also used part of his garage as a body shop where he repaired and painted vehicles. He had attended the Wellsville Nazarene Church.
Survivors include three daughters: Deborah Clark of Marietta, OH, Joyce Hoffman of Anchorage, AK, and Deanna Taggart and her husband, Paul, of Mason, OH; and one son, Jerry Westlake and his wife, Connie, of Salineville. Howard is also survived by seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Dirk Hall of the Living Well Church officiating. The Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors at 10:50 am.
Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
