Obituary of Jon Robert Yergin
Jon Robert Yergin
WELLSVILLE - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, dad, and pappy, Jon Robert Yergin on Monday, September 16, 2019. He was surrounded with love and peace.
He was born August 5, 1944, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Larnie and Catherine (Hissom) Yergin. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his grandson, Cason Yergin; brother and sister-in-law, William and Beulah Yergin, Sr.; and his nephew, William Yergin, Jr. His brothers-in-law: Walter Cross, Jr., Charles Cross, Terry Cross, and Frank Cross, as well as his in-laws, Etta and Walter Cross, Sr. also preceded him in death.
Jon graduated from Wells High School in Newell in 1963. He was employed as a machinist for Airco Welding Plant and most recently as a welder for Dravo. Jon was a member of the Aboriginal Club and attended the Living Well Church. Jon had many talents and interests. He loved rollerskating in his younger days, and spent countless, happy hours with his friends at Kay Bee Roller Arena and Melody Lanes. He loved vintage automobiles and shared that love through the models he made and the cars and trucks he owned throughout his life, including two Ford Falcons and a red 1955 Ford truck. He was an avid collector and hunter of Indian artifacts, a love that he shared with his brother, Bill. They spent many hours searching for arrowheads. Jon was also a wonderful artist, painting beautiful country scenes by hand, and gifting them to family and friends throughout the years. Above all, Jon loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Donna S. (Cross) Yergin, whom he married November 4, 1967; three daughters: Terry Woyan and her husband, Tim, of Wellsville, Catherine Yergin of Wellsville, and Erin Huddlestun and her significant other, Robert Lisk, of Wellsville; and six grandchildren: Amanda Woyan-Tuttle and her husband, Tim, Jacob Woyan, Tracer Yergin, Tanner Yergin, Jonathan Huddlestun, and Grace Huddlestun. Jon is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Debbie Cross, Sonnie Cross, and Patricia Sherman and her husband, Harry; seven nieces and nephews: Ed Cross, Eric (Valerie) Cross, Sharma (Greg) Cross-Carter, Michael Cross, Sarah Cross, Luke (Brenda) Sherman, and Michele Truax Yergin; and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews: Dominic and Billy Yergin, Lucian Cross, Nora Gibbs, Kalee (Dakota) Stedman, Kaden Cross, Emma, Hannah, and Will Carter, and Mackenzie and Alex Sherman, as well as many cousins, and his faithful canine companion, Molly.
