Obituary of James Edwin Boyce
James Edwin "Jim" Boyce
EAST LIVERPOOL - James Edwin "Jim" Boyce, 73, of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born March 23, 1945, in Steubenville, the son of the late Mearl Boyce. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death on April 4, 2014, by his beloved wife, Cynthia "Cindy" (Wetzel) Boyce, whom he married October 5, 1991. He was also preceded in death by Ernest Dunlevy, Arlene Grimm, and Rosalind Schaming.
James graduated from Wellsville High School in 1965 and served in the United States Navy from 1965-1969 during the Vietnam War. He worked in the maintenance department for several area steel mills, including TMK Ipsco Koppel Tubulars Corporation in Koppel, PA. He was a lifetime member of the VVA Chapter 862 in Rochester, PA. Jim was an avid fan of all the Cleveland sports teams and an OSU football fan. He also enjoyed watching crime dramas, working out, and hanging out at JP's Pizzeria.
Jim was a romantic at heart. After an accident at the steel mill, he was unable to wear his wedding band on his hand any more. Instead, Jim wore it on a chain around his neck, and after Cindy died, he added her wedding band to the chain as well. Jim never took the chain off and had it on the day he passed away. He also bought fresh flowers every week to place beside Cindy's urn. He mourned the loss of his wife every day.
Survivors include one daughter, Jenny Boyce, of East Liverpool; and his mother, Joyce Wetzel, of Wellsville. Also surviving are two nieces: Shawna (Roger) Kelly and her sons, Rohan and Finley, of Hanoverton, OH, and Kristen Medure and her daughter, Brynslee, of East Rochester, PA; three cousins: Timothy (Helen) Dunlevy of Wellsville; Melissa (Tom) Miller of Salineville and their children: Matthew (Jill) Miller of Shepherd, MI, and Taumi (Conrad) Kalcich and her daughter, Arly Mae, of Pittsburgh, PA; and Dave (Kathy) Grimm and their children: Kasandra (Ryan) Wilson, Debra (Jason) Prendergast, and Dee Dee (Chuck) Willis, and their children, all of Salineville.
