Obituary of Domenica Gbur

Domenica Rose “Minnie” Gbur

WELLSVILLE - Domenica Rose “Minnie” Gbur, 90, of Wellsville, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Family Hospice Manor in Pittsburgh.

She was born November 3, 1926, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Bua) Prezzia. In addition to her parents, Minnie was preceded in death on December 21, 2004, by her husband, George M. Gbur, whom she married September 17, 1960. She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Betty Amato, Virginia Crea, and Anna Giambroni; and four brothers: Domenic, Phillip, Paul, and John Prezzia.

Minnie graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Grade School in 1940, Wellsville High School in 1944, and she attended Ohio Valley Business College. She had been employed at the former Baker’s Meat Market where she met her husband, George. She also worked at Prezzia’s Market and as a clerk at an insurance agency. Minnie and George also owned and operated Lakeview Greenhouse in Highlandtown. Minnie was a member of the Wellsville Sons of Italy Lodge 657, Triple 9 Card Club, Thursday Women’s Bowling League, and attended the Class of ’44 luncheons. She was also a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, and she was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Chester.

Survivors include two sons: George A. Gbur of Wellsville and John P. Gbur of Calcutta; and one sister, Rose Amedeo of Chester, WV.

A Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 25, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Church, 418 4th Street, Chester, WV, with Father Jeeson Stephan presiding.

Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:00-2:00 pm and 4:00-7:00 pm Sunday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
