Emmet L. "Pete" Pelley, Jr.
WELLSVILLE - Emmet L. "Pete" Pelley, Jr., 97, of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021, at East Liverpool City Hospital.
He was born April 22, 1923, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Ruth Eva (Grindle) and Emmet L. Pelley, Sr. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death on September 24, 2010, by his wife, Betty Jean (Barrett) Pelley, whom he married April 24, 1945; two sisters: Donna Mercer and Helen McIntosh; and one brother, Robert Pelley.
Pete served in the United States Navy from 1943-1945 during World War II. He was deployed on the first ship to Japan to occupy the gulf. After serving his country, he returned home and was employed as a machinist at the former Patterson Foundry before retiring in 1982. Pete was a member of the Wellsville Lodge 180 of the Free and Accepted Masons and the Yellow Creek Grange, and he was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 70. He was a member of the Living Well Church.
Survivors include three daughters: Jean Barborak and her husband, Larry, of East Liverpool, Pam Carr and her husband, Tim, of Lisbon, and Roxanne Banfield and her husband, Stephen, of East Liverpool; three sons: Emmet "Pete" Pelley and his wife, Maureen, of East Liverpool, Lewis Pelley and his wife, Joyce, of Texas, and Randy Pelley and his companion, Tina Davison, of Salineville; three sisters: Rose Mary Larbig of Mentor, OH, Joann Turick of Toronto, and Colleen Rosenlieb of Wellsville; one brother, Charles Pelley and his wife, Dorothy, of Wellsville; and one sister-in-law, Betty Pelley of Wellsville. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville with Pastor Dirk Hall of the church officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
