Obituary of Pauline Welch

Pauline Ann Welch

Chula Vista, CA - Pauline (Polly) Ann Welch passed away in the loving presence of her family and her best friend following a brief hospitalization on October 9th, 2017.  She is survived by five sons, Danny, Mark (Mary), Anthony (Lanette), Patrick (Marcia), and Sean; 13 grand-children and 3 great grand-children.  She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Dale Welch, her parents, Victoria and Anthony Frontone and her four brothers: Pat, Michael, Joseph (Dixie) and Ralph.  Pauline was born on January 13, 1935 in Wellsville, Ohio.

Always a shining star, she attended Wellsville High School, graduating as the Salutatorian of her 1952 Class.  While working as a secretary in a Wellsville law office, she fell in love with her pen-pal, Gordon, who at the time was serving in the Army and stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  A year later they were married and embarked on a 49 year adventure together spanning two continents and six states, eventually settling down in Chula Vista, California.

Pauline was first and foremost a devoted wife and loving mother.  Moving every three to four years while living the Army life and raising her five children, she was the one constant in our home. She taught us how to make friends (quickly), how to play and to keep ourselves entertained.  She was always there through thick and thin, a loving wife and mother, best friend always interested and caring for the many trials and tribulations facing young children growing up on the move. Somehow, she managed to keep it all together and everyone happy.

When Gordon retired from the Army, the family decided to finally settle down in Oaks, PA where the children could finish their public schooling. Pauline had time to think about going back to work, opening the next chapter in her life.  She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for several small companies before deciding to return to school.  She graduated first in her class receiving her Computer Programmer certification from Maxwell Institute and was hired by them as a teacher. She went on to lead a very successful career working in the information technology field.  With their children all grown, in 1981, Pauline, Gordon, and Danny moved to Chula Vista, California where she eventually retired from the information technology department at Southwestern College.

Pauline was endlessly interested in life, enjoyed reading, learning and challenging herself daily with crossword puzzles.  She was always giving and contributed to numerous charities and good causes.  She enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitching and made beautiful gifts for family and charities.  She also enjoyed music and was a gifted piano player.

Friends may call at Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street, Wellsville, Ohio on October 17th, 2017 from 9:00 - 11:00 am.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with her nephew, Pastor Robert Welch of the Christ United Methodist Church in East Springfield, Ohio officiating.
